An entryway is like a first impression for your home. Whatever you place there will be one of the first things that your guests see and notice. When it comes to decorating a console table, the task itself can feel a little daunting. How can you incorporate elements that feel cohesive? How do you decorate the console table to feel welcoming and inviting?
Below, I’m sharing some of my best tips for decorating a console table in your entryway. To start, here are a few things to start to consider:
- How big your space is

Tips for Decorating a Console Table in the Entryway
1. Choose Your Table
Selecting the table might actually be one of the more challenging parts! Start by measuring your space and considering what design elements are most important to you. Think about the color scheme you’d like and what kinds of elements might look best in the space. A wood console table will give a very different vibe than a metal or glass one.
Also consider the types of console tables that are available – do you want a table that has drawers or would you prefer one that has multiple shelves. I’ve included a few examples of attractive console tables below – each one has a very different style and function.
2. Consider Lighting
Is your space full of natural light or will you need a few lamps? A small table lamp can be a great way to incorporate lighting and style into your entryway. Choose a lamp in the color scheme or design theme so that the space feels cohesive. For example, if you prefer a more boho aesthetic in your entryway, you might want to include a woven or rattan lamp. For added flair, you can position two lamps on either side so that your table is symmetrical.
3. Include a Mirror
Mirrors are a great addition to any entryway because they can help provide a focal point. They also come in a variety of shapes, colors, and designs, so it should be easy to find one that fits within your personal aesthetic. I got my large circular mirror from Tuesday Morning and I love how it brings a little drama and style to the space.
4. Create Storage Options
Take some time to think about who will typically be using the entryway space. Is this space used a lot by children? If so, a table with storage might be helpful for tucking away toys and extra shoes. If you plan on entertaining a lot and would like your guests to take off their shoes, it might also be helpful to have a shoe storage system or a bench nearby.
My favorite way to incorporate storage is by using large baskets placed under the table. If you prefer something enclosed, you can also use decorative boxes with lids.
5. Include Different Textures
One easy way to add visual interest to any space is by incorporating different textures. For your console table, mix up the decor by adding in wood, books, ceramics, picture frames, plants, and fresh flowers. You can also use books for stacking to create extra height. However you choose to decorate your console table, just remember that there really is no wrong way! It’s totally fine to experiment with different arrangements until you find things that you really like. Decorating is never really done, so you truly can’t go wrong.
