Growing up, I was always terrible at doing my nails. Last year, though, I decided to work on my own manicure skills and vowed to paint my nails weekly as a form of self-care. In the beginning, I felt awkward and embarrassed by how hard it was for me. However, I’ve learned that having cute nails just takes a little patience and practice: just like anything else!
This is one of my favorite designs I’ve learned so far. It’s so cute and all you need is two contrasting colors, a neutral/clear color, a dotting tool (or toothpick), and a top coat. I used red and a light pink for my contrasting colors. This nail design would be perfect for Valentine’s Day, but it’s also versatile enough to be used for any spring or summer day. You could also use any alternative color combinations to create an attractive nail design. I used red and light pink, but you could also try a blue/green or black/white.

Floral Valentine’s Day Nails
- Paint your thumb, pointer, and pinky a solid red color. Let dry and apply one more coat.
- Paint your ring and middle finger a neutral/pale color. Let dry and apply one more coat.
- Using a dotting tool, apply the petals with the pink color. Use a very light touch and apply 5 dots per flower. If your nails are short (like mine) you can create halves of flowers along the top and bottom of your nail.
- Apply dots of red into the center of your flowers.
- Apply top coat and let dry.
Products I used:
Olive and June has the best quality nail polish I have tried so far. Their polish is also 7-free, which means it’s free of some of the more toxic chemicals found in many conventional nail polishes.

I also bought a set of dotting tools several months ago that have really helped improve my nail art skills. They are pretty affordable and you can find them on Amazon HERE.
