I know it’s July but I’ve already started thinking about my Halloween decor. Halloween is a big deal in my neighborhood and we always get a lot of trick or treaters that come through.
This year, our house will be spider-themed! I have always had a soft spot for creepy crawly critters and I actually had a pet tarantula as a kid. Today I’m sharing a fun and easy craft that is perfect for spooky season: a spider web wreath. If you’re looking for a Halloween wreath that’s full of creepy surprises, this one is for you.

Spider Web Wreath DIY
Materials Needed:
- One grapevine wreath
- Scissors
- Black cotton yarn
- Small and large spiders
- Faux spider webbing
- (Optional) White wool felt balls
- (Optional) Larger soft spider
1. Create a Spider Web
Create the shape of your spider web by laying pieces of black yarn across the width of your wreath. I cut four lengths of yarn and laid them down vertically, horizontally, and diagonally. Begin creating the base of your web by tying one yarn edge to the grapevine wreath. Then stretch that yarn taut and tie the other end directly across to the other side.
Once you have one yarn in place, take your second piece of yarn and secure it to the opposite edge (perpendicular to the first yarn) and then wrap it around the first yarn to tie a square knot in the center of the wreath. Pull it taut and tie a square knot to the opposite side. Repeat with the remaining two yarns, taking care to wrap and knot each yarn in the middle before securing to the other side.
2. Wrap your web
Cut a longer piece of black yarn and tie a square knot to one of the yarns in the inner corner of the base of the web. Starting from the middle, you will then wrap this yarn around each radiating pieces of yarn to start to create the web shape. Don’t worry if you run out of yarn! You can always cut another piece and knot it together to continue around the circle.
Continue going around your circle until you are happy with the appearance of your web. Once you’re happy with the shape, you can tie any remaining yarn to the edge of the grapevine wreath.
3. Place the Faux Webbing
Take your webbing and stretch it gently over the grapevine wreath. You can add as much or as little as you would like, but keep in mind that the webbing will help your spiders stay in place.
4. Place Spiders in Web
Once you’re happy with the webbing, you can start adding spiders! I bought a lot of spiders of different sizes and shapes so that it would look like it was a whole nest.
This is totally optional, but you can also wrap some small felt balls in the faux webbing to give the appearance of spider eggs.
5. Display Proudly
Feel free to add any additional spiders to make your wreath truly one of a kind! I bought a pack of large spiders and used the smallest one in the pack to add one giant spider to the corner.
