I LOVE pumpkin pie. Growing up in the midwest, it was always one of my favorite things about thanksgiving. There would be years that my mom would bake three different pies. When I started seeing garlands at HomeGoods, I started thinking about what kinds of garlands I would like to make for myself. In the spirit of fall, I decided to work up my own version of a pumpkin garland that is quick and easy to make.
All you need for this project is some felt, yarn, hot glue, and some optional decorative felt balls. I made this one a no-sew project to keep it simple and fast, but you could definitely modify it and sew the pieces up instead of hot gluing them.

Pumpkin Pie Garland
Materials:
- One piece of 9×12″ orange felt
- One piece of 9×12″ tan felt
- One piece of 9×12″ white felt (I used fleece instead of white felt but it works the same)
- Hot glue gun and extra hot glue sticks
- Darning needle
- White/tan felt balls (I used small balls like this because I didn’t realize how tiny they were. These larger ones might work better)
- Thin cotton yarn
- Paper and pen
Instructions
- Start by creating a template for your pumpkin pie shapes. I started by outlining a triangle with sides that were approximately 4 inches. I then rounded the edge and cut it out of the paper to create by base. Using this triangle, I pinned it to the tan felt and cut 7 pie base pieces.
- Using your template, trim the top edge off about a half inch. This will be the template for your top orange pieces. I pinned the template and cut 7 top orange pieces.
- Cut a rectangle that is 3.5 in. x 0.75 in. This will be the template for your pie crusts. I cut 7 pie crusts from the tan yarn.
- Cut 7 medium circles and 7 small circles from the white felt/fleece to create the whip cream dollop. These definitely don’t need to be perfect – you can eyeball them easily.
- Take your yarn and cut it to 67 inches in length. Make a loop at one end using a slip knot or square knot.
- Begin to assemble your pumpkin pie slices by placing one tan triangle down. Place some hot glue on the smaller orange triangle and press down on to the tan piece.
- Next, place your yarn down approximately 4 in. from your knot and glue down to the top.
- Place hot glue dots along the top edge and start to place your small rectangular “crust” piece on top. Hot glue takes some time to dry, so I just made 3 crimps along the top and held it there until it dried.
- Hot glue the large white circle to the top of the pumpkin slice. Then hot glue the smaller circle on top to add dimension.
- Thread the other end of your yarn with a darning needle and pass a felt ball through about 1 1/2 inch from your first slice. Add a dot of hot glue to secure and hold the ball in place.
- Repeat steps 6-10 with all of your pumpkin slice pieces.
- Remove darning needle and tie a loop at the end of the yarn.
- Hang somewhere cute!
