Honest Review: Olive and June Press-On Nails

I have always wanted to try press-on nails, so I was so excited to see Olive and June’s new line at target. After skimming the back of the package, I learned that their $10 press-on nail pack includes 42 fake nails in 21 sizes, a prep pad, small bottle of glue, and a small stick for pushing back cuticles. I impulsively grabbed a pack of the medium-length almond nails and decided I would try them for my Valentine’s dinner date. This post is NOT sponsored, so I’m going to share my honest experience with you all.

My Overall Rating: ★★★☆☆

The Good:

These designs are soooo cute and they look amazing on your fingers. The medium length was much longer than my natural nails and they looked feminine and sophisticated. I also loved the cute heart nail design. Application was a breeze and the insert card included makes it easy to plan the size you want for each finger. The glue set within 30 seconds and I was actually surprised by how quickly I was able to put them on.

The Bad:

Unfortunately, the curve of the thumb nails made it difficult to keep them on. My right thumb nail popped off twice before the first day was over. Olive and June recommends using a smaller nail instead of a larger one if it overlaps with your cuticles. I have small fingers in general, but the curve of the thumb seemed unnatural and it didn’t even flex very well to fit my finger.

The Ugly:

Okay, here’s where it gets a little disappointing. These nails felt PAINFUL. I wanted them to work so bad because they looked amazing, but by the end of the night it felt like my pinky and ring fingers were all throbbing. Olive and June claims that these nails are made from 94% post-consumer recycled materials and that they are intended to be super flexible. For me, though, it felt like the curve of the fake nail was pulling on my regular nails. My nails are a little on the flatter side, so maybe this particular brand just doesn’t fit my fingers.

Unfortunately, I can’t speak to the longevity of these nails because I ended up soaking them in hot water so that I could go to sleep without pain. I felt so much relief taking them off! Removal was a little difficult because I didn’t have any acetone, but I was able to get most of them off within 15 minutes of soaking.

Would I recommend them?

I love the design of these nails but it’s probably best to avoid these if you have a “flatter” nail bed. For me, it just wasn’t worth the pain of wearing them. I would say for the price, they are pretty reasonable since everything is included and you can re-use them if you’re careful with removal. However, my search continues for the perfect press-on.
