Candy Corn Garland Tutorial

candy corn garland hanging

To be completely honest, I don’t like candy corn very much. I’ve always thought it tasted weirdly sweet and artificial. However, the candy corn garland I whipped up is a perfectly fun way to get into the spooky holiday spirit without having to actually take a bite of candy.

All you need for this project is some felt, yarn, hot glue, and some optional decorative felt balls. I made this one a no-sew project to keep it simple and fast, but you could definitely modify it and sew the pieces up instead of hot gluing them. I think it looks great strung up on a mantel or across an entryway table.

Instructions

  1. Start by creating a template for your candy corn pieces. I made a rough sketch of a rounded triangle and divided it into thirds. I then cut it out from the paper to use as a template for my shapes. candy corn template
  2. Using this piece, I pinned it to the yellow felt and cut 6 base pieces. template for yellow corn
  3. Using your template, cut your top and bottom pieces off to create new template for the top and bottom pieces that will be white and orange, respectively. white templateorange template
  4. Cut 6 of each template. Now you can start assembling your candy corn pieces together with hot glue. Take one yellow base piece and hot glue the top white piece on top. Then hot glue the orange piece to the bottom. assemble candy corn
  5. Take your yarn and cut it to about 5 feet in length. Make a loop at one end and arrange your candy corn pieces and felt balls to your desired distance.
  6. Begin to assemble the garland by gluing the back of your candy corn pieces to the yarn. assembling garland
  7. Optional: you can thread your yarn with a darning needle and alternate the candy corn with white felt balls.
  8. Continue in this pattern until all candy corn pieces have been attached.
  9. Make a loop at the end and it’s ready to hang.
